Intimate Partner Violence (PRAMS)
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is abuse or aggression that occurs in a romantic relationship. An intimate partner refers to former or current spouses or dating partners. IPV can include any of the following types of behavior: physical violence, sexual violence, stalking or psychological aggression. Many negative health outcomes are assoicated with IPV, including conditions affecting the heart, muscles and bones, mental health problems and a higher risk of engaging in behaviors like smoking, binge drinking and sexual risk activity. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that IPV screening be a core part of women's health visits and occur at periodoc intervals, including prenatal and postpartum visits.
